Why Astrix is a startup to watch

Astrix Security contends that non-human identities (NHI), such as API keys, secrets, and service accounts, typically outnumber human identities by a factor of 20 to 1 or more. NHIs receive privileged access to corporate IP and customer data, but as much as 90% of credentials are not protected by existing IAM solutions, despite the fact that 49% of breaches involve stolen credentials.

Astrix argues that attackers have started to consider NHIs as prime targets. Okta, Cloudflare, Microsoft, and Dropbox Sign are just a few of the recent high-profile victims of attacks that involved compromised NHIs.

To counter this problem, Astrix has developed software that secures and manages NHIs across cloud and on-premises environments. Astrix provides a continuous inventory of all NHIs across various environments and detects over-privileged, redundant, and risky ones. Astrix also provides enterprises with advanced non-human ITDR capabilities, detecting and responding to anomalous behavior of NHIs, policy deviations, and supply chain breaches in real-time. Customers can automate remediation through out-of-the-box policies, custom workflows, and enterprise integrations to ITSM/SIEM/SOAR.

The startup has raised $40 million in funding. Its most recent round was a $25 million Series A that closed in June 2023. The round was led by CRV, with additional investments from Bessemer Venture Partners, F2 Venture Capital, Venrock, and Kmehin Ventures.
